Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) is one of the oldest mental health care institutes in India established in the year 1876. It is located at Tezpur in Sonitpur district of Assam with a lush green campus. Over the years, this tertiary mental health care institute has been playing a major role in catering to the entire population of The Northeast part of the country. The institute has been playing an active role in manpower development and research in The field of mental health and allied science. The institute offers regular courses under Gauhati University with M. sc. In Psychiatric Nursing, M.D. in Psychiatry, M. Phi in Psychiatric Social work and Clinical Psychology, Ph. D in Psychiatric Nursing and also Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing under Assam Nursing Council. The hospital is equipped with 336 beds and offers preventive, curative and rehabilitative mental health services by multidisciplinary mental health team.

About-LGBRMIH-Dept-of-NusrsingThe mental health nurses are the core mental health care providers with a range of scope and roles in them to-work with individuals, families, groups, and communities. They work for the promotion of mental health, prevention of mental illness, caring and rehabilitating the person with mental illness. The full-fledged Department of Psychiatric Nursing was started in the year 1998 to introduce training programmes in the field of Psychiatric Nursing. In 2001, the Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing (DPN) was started with the recognition from the Indian Nursing Council and Assam Nurses’, Midwives’ and Health Visitors Council. In 2007, the M. Sc Nursing (Psychiatric Nursing) course was introduced for the first time in the NER of India under Gauhati University and the Ph. D. in Psychiatric Nursing started in the year 2017. The Department also conducts teaching and clinical programmes for students coming for exposure posting from more than 20 nursing institutions across the country.
